2020 interview heated topics for internship and graduate jobs in HK
1️⃣COVID-19 ❓Why: All industries asked about this! 📍Preparation: Covid-19 has been happening for almost a year, it is a common topic to ask in interviews. e.g. “If Covid-19 lasted for one more year, what would happen?”! So you need to study on the relationship between Covid and the company before you go interview, as companies’ management and development might have changed a lot due to COVID.
🗣 Common interview questions:
➡️Investment Banks: In CADP's Final interview, JPM UK asked “How COVID-19 affects communication/ dynamic in a team?
➡️Banks: Standard Chartered has asked about “What challenges do you think our team is facing under COVID-19, what are the main risks that we should put most concern on?” in the Banking Talent Programme Final Interview.
➡️Regulators: one of their MT interviews asked about “Opportunities to HK financial market brought by COVID-19 and the new healthcare start-ups”.
➡️Conglomerates: In April, Jardines' AC asked: “How do you think COVID-19 is affecting Jardine’s business?”
2️⃣US election & China-US trade war
❓Why: US presidential election will be ending on 3rd Nov! If you are applying for market-related roles, most of these interviews will ask about the US election. Companies might ask “Other than Covid-19, can you tell us about other news that will impact globally?”, and “the US election” could be the answer.
📍Preparation: US election is important in various levels, but the most significant points for applications and interview preparations are those related to the trade war. You can check on Trump and Biden’s stance towards trading with China, you should also focus on what if Biden won the election, how the trade war will continue.
