An insight on asking Smart Questions

At the end of most of the interviews or Coffee chat session, there is always a Q&A Session, many candidates might be confused about what questions should they ask to impress the interviewers🤯. Hence, HKCareers would like to share our insights on asking Smart Questions to allow you to leave a good impression and increase your success rate on receiving offers.

🔺The right way to ask questions during interviews:

1️⃣show your understanding of the industry/company/position: The question you asked should be in-depth or able to show that you have done your research before your interview. Do not ask any questions that could be answered easily with the company's website. For instance questions like “what are their client base?”, “who are their significant clients?” should be prepared in advance but not asked during your meeting.

2️⃣Do not ask questions that might offend interviewers’ privacy: you could ask interviewers’ personal experience/ industry insights (mentioned below), but do not ask questions like how much are their salaries, what are their plans for the future😰 as it is very impolite.

3️⃣Ask questions that the interviewers really care about: During the interviews or Coffee chat, it is not hard to recognise that there are specific areas that the interviewers valued. For instance, if they ask you a lot about Technical knowledge, then you would know they value a lot of Tech related issues. Hence, you should ask questions related to Tech, for example, “is there any programming knowledge you would expect from the new staff?”. Be aware not to ask only HR-related questions, like when will the result be out, it is very likely they do not know, and there is no huge meaning asking them. Of course, if you are having an HR interview, then you could ask questions related to the recruitment process.

4️⃣Show your passion towards the industry: No matter how many questions you ask, the most important thing is to be sincere when you ask, so that the interviewers know that you are passionate about this industry.
