How to get a PB offer without any technical background?

Jenny’s success story is quite unique since she was pursuing a degree in law. She was quite keen to get into private banking, but most of her internships were law or Marketing related experiences. She did read a few business subjects including finance and economics, but more importantly, she was academically very strong, and quite tenacious in her approach. Since she lacked a strong technical background, our strategy was to focus on cracking client-facing front office roles which would be best aligned to her outgoing personality, and well-articulated communication skills. Through her legal internship, she obtained exposure advising investment banking clients on due diligence and compliance advice on IPO and M&A deals. More importantly, she got to shadow her team in client pitching meetings. Apart from this, she participated in asset management related conferences, networking events, and case competitions. She attended a lot of our business case practice sessions, badgered our coaches, asking lots of questions, and training up her product and market knowledge. Unlike other students on our 2-year or 3-year plan, she managed to secure a PB placement in one year with her sheer persuasive attitude.
