How to secure 2 BB bank S&T offers with only small firm experiences?

Prior to joining our program, Tommy had only done internships at small asset management firms. Initially he wanted to get into IBD, but since he was a non-Chinese speaker, we pointed out that it’d be an obstacle to his admissibility: most IBD deals would involve Chinese clients.

Our strategy: We advised him to apply for S&T, rather than wealth management that serves a lot of Chinese and Hong Kong clients. Besides, his sociable personality enables him to adapt with S&T easily.

 

However, he lacked the technical competency and knowledge of the recruitment process, in particular the unique features of each firm and what the recruiters look for.

 

Our preparation: We helped him develop his soft skills and understand the S&T position. We conducted briefings and mock-in prior to his interviews, so that he became familiar with every question that could possibly come up. Most importantly, he was able to tackle challenging questions regarding his lack of internship experience; by distinguishing himself against other candidates with his international exposure and high level of English proficiency.

 

In the end, he managed to secure 2 S&T offers from BB banks, one for Sales and another for Structurer.
