Salary package and working hours of a Bank MT and the differentiation with other industries:
Salary o A front office staff with 5 years experience usually earn around HKD700K – 800K annually (including bonus) if you start off as an MT o A back office staff with 5 years experience usually earn around HKD500K – 700K annually (including bonus) if you start off as an MT
Working hours
o Front office staff: 10 – 14 hours
o A back office staff: 10 – 12 hours
Differentiation with other industry
o Vs Property & Conglomerate
The work life of a banker is more hectic than property and conglo MT, but the salary is generally 20-30% higher. However, Property and Conglo has a more stable work life and higher job security
o Vs Audit & Tax
Although the working hour of bankers is on average shorter than Big4 auditor, and salary of bankers is much higher than in the first 6 years, however, if you can stay in Big4 for longer than 7 years, your salary may end up higher than a banker – the promotion to senior management in Big4 (Partner grade) is also faster and less competitive than bankers
o Vs Consulting & advisory
As various advisory positions may have very different career path, please ask the coach directly if you are interested to make comparison between bankers and certain advisory positions
