Should you submit your grad job / internship application just before the deadline?
Definitely No! Because a lot of companies process the applications on a rolling basis!
Rolling basis means that recruiters review applications on an ongoing basis. This implies that they open up the next assessment stage upon receiving a good amount of applications after CV screening, automated Aptitude Test and Video Interview stages. Applications sent in nearer to the deadline are disadvantaged since headcount could be quickly filled up by early applicants who already passed the assessment stage. HSBC, Hang Seng and the Big4 recruit this way.
Other companies such as BOC, JPM, MS only start screening and inviting candidates for the next stage after receiving all applications in a batch recruitment round. There is no rush in applying early, but the downside is that unsuccessful candidates are unlikely to be given a second chance once other applicants have progressed to the next stage.
