How Do Investment Bankers Read Your CV?

Since I am back after a hiatus, I'd like to share this key tip that most applicants overlook while preparing their #investmentbankingapplications, be it #graduatetrainee or MBA level students.

Before we get to that, remember that your CV must have sufficient keywords (DCF, Python, financial modeling, M&A, buy-side) for the ATS (Application Tracking System) that most firms use now before an actual person reads it.

After that, there's a high chance that HR will direct your CV to another analyst for review. If you're from a 'target school' like Ivy leagues, then your alumni analysts will be sent your CV, else to anyone with bandwidth to spare.

But how do they read your CV?
At the last minute before an interview, and in 30 seconds.  Thus your CV must have a high skim value to draw quick attention. Here's how:

✅ Highlight achievements like a strong GPA/ big brand schools and employers/ related #ibank experience/ elite clubs.

Quantify- Scholarships/ Deal size you got exposed to/ funds raised for charities or student society

Interests- Surprisingly underrated. They are looking for interesting personalities who they can get along with especially given the long stressful hours you spend as a team.

✅ No grammatical errors.
