Why Year & Year 2 Students Must Target PWMA Roles?
If you want to get your first internship experience, you can’t miss today’s post!
For Year 1 and Year 2 students, the worst news was the rumor that PWMA may not be held this year 😢
But recently, PWMA finally updated its website and announced that it will continue this year! Since PWMA, like WAM, is a program that only a few Targets apply to Y2, and it is related to investment banking and finance, it is safe to say that all Y1/Y2 students who eventually join investment banks will know how to apply for PWMA! In addition to PWMA, there are many companies or programs that will consider Y1 and Y2 students. The Brand Name should also be good, which will be very helpful for your future career planning!
▶️ 3 Programs and companies that Y1& Y2 students must apply for!
1️⃣Investment banking and banking related——PWMA Program
✅What is PWMA?
PWMA (Private Wealth Management Association) is a pilot talent training program jointly organized with HKMA. The purpose of the program is to make more people know about #wealthmanagement and train more wealth man talent. One thing to note is that PWMA is the same as WAM. Only students in Hong Kong-based universities are eligible to apply!
✅How to apply for PWMA?
▶️Exclusively for Y2 students (or some companies will consider Y3 students): Even if Y2 students have no work experience, don’t worry PWMA can help you! In fact, every year, many Y2 students get their first front-office working experience in a large investment bank through PWMA!
✅What companies are included?
⭕️Goldman Sachs
⭕️DB
⭕️UBS
⭕️Nomura
(Credit Suisse was a big player in PWMA in previous years and would invite many people, including Y3 students! If they do open, students will have one less job to apply for, so they should be more cautious when applying for jobs)
3️⃣Bank related - HSBC & Hang Seng Co-op Program (a.k.a. Student Placement)
✅What exactly is the Co-op Program🤔
▶️The Co-op Program is a full-time placement lasting 6 months or a year🤩Since students need to return to full-time employment, students need to defer a sem or one year to complete the placement. You’ll be mainly responsible for frontline administrative work.
✅Why apply for the co-op program?
▶️ This program is mainly for Year 1/2 students. Most Year 1/2 students do not have many job opportunities and are not qualified to apply. Some banks only consider internship programs for Penultimate students. So co-op can be your first choice!
▶️Competition is not massive: Since students have to delay graduation to complete co-op, relatively fewer people apply, reducing competition.
▶️The barrier for entry is relatively low: Many internships in investment banks, banks and companies have certain GPA requirements, that students may fail. By defering a semester or a year you can create a solid foundation and the co-op
GPA requirement isnt very high, so it's a great fit!
